Founded in 2014 under the visionary leadership of Her Excellency Prof. Gertrude Mutharika, BEAM Trust has grown from a beautification initiative into a comprehensive national movement for health, education, and environmental stewardship.
Guided by the First Lady's vision, we transform Malawi into a beacon of cleanliness and prosperity.
In 2014, the Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust was established with a simple but powerful vision: to restore the natural beauty of Malawi and instil a culture of cleanliness across the nation. What began as tree-planting drives and city clean-ups in Lilongwe quickly revealed a deeper truth — that beauty and health are inseparable.
As the Trust engaged with communities, it became clear that environmental sanitation was the missing link in Malawi's public health strategy. Schools without toilets were losing girls to dropout. Villages without clean water were battling preventable diseases. Deforestation was eroding the very landscapes that make Malawi the "Warm Heart of Africa."
Under the patronage of Her Excellency Prof. Gertrude Mutharika, First Lady of the Republic of Malawi, BEAM Trust evolved into a multi-pillar organisation. Today, our programmes span education bursaries through Educating Linda, school hygiene and sanitation reaching all 6,942 primary schools, reforestation and beautification with a target of 5 million trees by 2028, and community health outreach bringing mobile clinics to the most remote villages.
In 2026, BEAM Trust launched its ambitious 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, presided over by His Excellency the State President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika. This five-year roadmap embeds BEAM's work into national policy, aligning every initiative with the Malawi 2063 vision for a clean, healthy, and prosperous nation.

We are transparent in every kwacha spent, every tree planted, and every life touched. Independent evaluations and public reporting are integral to how we operate.
We do not impose solutions. Every programme is designed with communities, for communities — ensuring local leadership drives lasting change.
Protecting Malawi's natural heritage is not optional. From reforestation to sustainable sanitation, every initiative respects and restores our environment.
Knowledge is the most powerful tool for transformation. We invest in girls' education and community health literacy to break cycles of poverty.
We collaborate with government, private sector, and civil society to multiply our impact. No single organisation can transform a nation alone.
Every project includes an exit strategy. We build systems, train committees, and integrate programmes into government plans so benefits outlast our presence.
