Mangochi, December 23: President Professor Peter Mutharika and the First Lady Professor Gertrude Mutharika on Monday December 23 hosted over two thousand kids drawn from Mangochi and Machinga districts, at the Chikoko Bay State Lodge in Mangochi.
Speaking to the joyful gathering of young ones with potential, the President interacted with the audience in a very rare way – through an interactive question and answer format. President Mutharika urged the children to aim high and concentrate on their studies if they are to achieve great roles in leadership in the future.
“Holiday time is a time for family and celebration, therefore we must all celebrate in style and as one big family,” he encouraged.
Before the President surprised everyone by showing up before the kids, the First Lady of Malawi and also Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust patron, Professor Gertrude Mutharika encouraged children to work hard in their studies.
“You must always prioritize your studies. Your vast knowledge in our traditional riddles is one testimony that you are being passionate in your studies. Keep it up!” she encouraged.
‘Avoid littering in your surroundings’
The BEAM patron further reminded the children that they must be extra careful during the rainy season and avoid littering if they are to prevent the spread of cholera and other related health problems. She reminded them that BEAM has sanitation and hygiene as one of their goals and children must be ambassadors of cleanliness and good sanitation for a healthier and cleaner Malawi.
